Description: The NPMS is a geographic information system (GIS) dataset containing the location and selected attributes of the major gas transmission and hazardous liquid transmission pipelines, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants operating in United States and other offshore entities. Effective October 1, 2015 pipeline and LNG plant data is contributed annually by pipeline operators as required by the Pipeline Safety: Miscellaneous Changes to Pipeline Safety Regulations (http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=PHMSA-2010-0026-0054). This metadata is for the entire national dataset.Distribution of NPMS data is handled for PHMSA by the National Repository and is limited to pipeline operators and local, state, and federal government officials. Neither the United States Government nor any party involved in the creation and compilation of NPMS data and maps guarantees the accuracy or completeness of the products. NPMS data has a target accuracy of +/- 500 feet and resides in geographic coordinates. NPMS data must never be used as a substitute for contacting the appropriate local one-call center prior to digging. The data in this feature class was requested through the NPMS on behalf of Chatham County in July 2015. The data was imported into the Chatham County enterprise GIS database and will be maintained annually by the Chatham County GIS department moving forward. The routine for maintenance will be to request an updated dataset from the NPMS (https://www.npms.phmsa.dot.gov/) and check for any new updates to import into ChathamGIS SQL database.
