Service Description: This feature class contains line features representing ten-foot changes in elevation throughout Chatham County, NC. It is sourced from Quality Level 2 lidar data provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Floodplain Mapping Program. LASD datasets were created referencing the tiled lidar data. Subsets were built using classified ground and water returns. Raster Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) were built by binning the points and averaging elevation values within 15 m x 15 m cells. The resulting DEMs were mosaicked to a contiguous ground elevation raster covering the entire county. Areas without ground point coverage that are covered by water bodies were patched by using DEMs derived from binned water elevation values. Contour lines were derived from the contiguous, patched DEM at various contour intervals.
