Polygons features representing parcels in Chatham County, NC that are part of the voluntary ag district (VAD). The feature class is maintained by the Chatham County GIS department on an annual basis by referencing the tax database to determine which parcels are to be included in the VAD layer.A Voluntary Agriculture District ordinance has been adopted by 80 counties in North Carolina including Chatham County. The purpose of the Agricultural District Program is to encourage the preservation and protection of farmland from non-farm development. This is in recognition of the importance of agriculture to the economic and social well being of North Carolina. The ordinance provides for the creation of an Agricultural Advisory Board to administer this program. The Board reviews and approves applications for qualifying farmland as well as establishing the agricultural district.<\/SPAN><\/P><\/DIV><\/DIV><\/DIV>",
